Not all research peptides are equal, and quality is hard to judge from a label alone. Before you buy, ask these five questions. They separate trustworthy research-grade material from the rest — and protect the reproducibility of your work.
- Quality comes down to documentation, testing and handling.
- A good supplier answers all five questions without hesitation.
- Research-grade ≠ pharmaceutical — it’s for laboratory use only.
1. Is there a batch-specific Certificate of Analysis?
A COA tied to the exact lot you’re buying is the foundation of trust. Generic or missing COAs are a red flag.
2. What is the HPLC purity?
Purity should be measured by HPLC and stated as a percentage. Higher purity means fewer by-products and more consistent results.
3. Is identity confirmed by mass spectrometry?
Purity tells you how much; identity tells you it’s the right molecule. Mass spectrometry should confirm the expected molecular weight.
4. How is it supplied and shipped?
Quality material is supplied lyophilized and handled cold. Ask how it’s packaged so it arrives stable.
5. Is it clearly labeled research use only?
Reputable suppliers are explicit that material is for laboratory research only — not for human or veterinary use. Clear labeling signals a compliant, serious vendor.
Quick checklist

|---|---|
| COA | Batch-specific, recent |
| Purity | HPLC %, with chromatogram |
| Identity | Mass spec confirmation |
| Handling | Lyophilized, cold-shipped |
| Labeling | Clear “research use only” |
